Oklahoma City, OK Chapter Foundation Hosts Ivy Fit Camp
In keeping with ESP Platform V—Health Resource Management and Economics—Beta Sigma Omega Ivy Foundation of Oklahoma City, OK developed a program targeting girls in grades 4-6. Known as the "Ivy Fit Camp," the goal is to promote active lifestyles and combat childhood obesity. Girls were introduced to basketball, softball, volleyball and hip-hop aerobics, as well as nutritional foods, including health-oriented beverages. Additionally, a nutritionist spoke on healthy eating, food and lifestyle choices.

Thirty-five girls from the greater Oklahoma City registered and attended the all-day sessions. Each girl participated in all four sports as part of a rotation. In addition, they enjoyed the nutritional information and received brochures and pamphlets to take home and read.
At the end of the session, the girls received a basketball as a way of encouraging them to stay active.
The Ivy Fit Camp could not have been held without the following:
- The University of Central Oklahoma, which allowed the Foundation use of its gym and softball fields;
- Nutrition expert Michael Rhone;
- Jason's Deli;
- The BSO Ivy Foundation; and
- Midwest Trophy.
At the end of the program, the enthusiastic smiles and compliments from participants and parents were the ultimate indicators of the program's success.
Oklahoma City Chapter Showcases Entrepreneurs through Two Novel Programs
The members of Beta Sigma Omega Chapter of Oklahoma City, OK were ecstatic when Alpha Kappa Alpha’s international president incorporated entrepreneurship into the ESP program. They took the cue from Barbara A. McKinzie to showcase the entrepreneurs within the Chapter through a directory.
In the form of a yearbook, the compiled listing includes member’s name, business name, business phone number, a description of the business and its web site. Those listed represent a cross section of businesses and include an interior designer, a realtor, an embroiderer and an attorney.
This enables the Chapter to give recognition to those bold businesswomen who fall under Platform I of the ESP program: The Non-Traditional Entrepreneur.
As an added opportunity, each month, a member/entrepreneur is given an opportunity to pitch her product and service at meetings, thereby providing a free marketing opportunity before an inspired and supportive audience.
Both programs are a success as the directory was overwhelmingly received and the slots for featuring member entrepreneurs for “elevator pitches” have all been filled.
It is also a way of attracting new members who are businesswomen as they find the opportunity a positive bonus of being a member of the Chapter.
